Dolly-Parton
Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19th, 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. to 12 hungry kids who would grow together eventually, learned very early how to get out of her difficulties with her incredibly imaginative imagination. The songs she wrote were composed before she could write or read. Within 8 years she had her very first guitar. In the age of 11 she started singing at the Knoxville Tennessee radio station. Gold Band Records is a tiny, independent label. Her name was made on the local circuit while in high school but she always dreamed of having a bigger stage. On the very day she graduated from high school, in 1964. Dumb Blonde (1967) and Something Fishy (1968) were her two first charting albums on Monument Records. Porter Wagoner had been looking for a female singer for his show that was syndicated in the years prior to this. Parton was signed to RCA Records and then joined the Grand Ole Opry. She accepted her job in 1967. However, it wasn't until 1974 when she made the decision to quit Wagoner's show because the success of her solo albums such as Joshua Coat, Many Colors, and Jolene was outstripping their joint efforts. Parton was a part of the group that split after the end of their partnership with Wagoner was the one to write I Will Always Love You and made it to Number. It was the first time that a song was able to reach No.
