Zoe Saldana was born on June 19, 1978 in Passaic, New Jersey, to Asalia Nazario and Aridio Saldana. Her parents, Aridio and Asalia are both Puerto Ricans. Her mother is from Puerto Rico and her father was Dominican. After she turned 10 years old, older, she and her family were relocated to the Dominican Republic, where they were to stay for seven years. Zoe's interest in dance was spurred by the time they were in the Dominican Republic. Zoe started her dance learning at ECOS Espacio de Danza Dance Academy. Training was not only an excellent way to exercise this eager young person, but was also an excellent preparation for her acting career. Zoe as well as her family and parents relocated to America at the age of 17. The young actress developed a passion of dance, and was attracted to the theatre.
